Martin Luther - after the publication of the 95 Thesis

Luther has not only wrote the 95 Theses, but many other books, pamphlets, and treatises that discussed the issues Luther saw with the church and its delivery of its doctrine.
But, with the mass publication of the Theses and its distribution, there were too many Germans, both Princes and Commoners, who were beginning to listen and approve of Luther and his teachings, over those of the Catholic Church. Something had to be done.
The Pope declared that there was to be an inquisition into Luther's teachings and his actions. Luckily, Luther had some friends in high places, who managed to secure a fair trial in Germany for him.
The Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V of Spain, was the judge over the trial in Worms. At the trial, Luther was told that he must recant, but he would not.
